Not to mention that I've heard some people saying that Chrom has better frame data, but unless I've analyzed it wrong, they have the EXACT SAME frame data on all moves (even up-b, which starts on frame 9). As far as I can see, it has the EXACT SAME (but don't quote me on that) height that Roy gets with his recovery, but Roy also gets horizontal recovery with his up-b that Chrom does not get at all, thus limiting how far Chrom can go out to edge guard. Chrom's up-b is basically Ike's Aether, as I'm sure you know. Sure, for the most part, this IS a good change, but Roy actually had a decent usage for the sour spots to combo and even sometimes kill (no joke, I sometimes kill with sour spot back-air offstage, and I swear sour spot down air is actually really potent in Smash 4). Chrom has a balanced sword like Lucina so he loses the tippers Roy had. Roy got a lot of buffs all around to his character in addition to indirect buffs from the mechanics change, and suddenly Roy looks like an actual threat now! Good edge guarding both off-stage and on-stage, as well as good advantage as well as above-stage disadvantage, and overall just a solid character at many things.īut now let's talk about Chrom. Sure, in Smash 4 Roy may not have had the best potential of all the characters (that didn't stop me from maining him thougn), but in Ultimate, he looks REALLY good (granted, all the good players are saying he's top tier, and I just can't see that happening, as much as I want to).
